About Edmonton “O” Society
The Edmonton “O” Society (EOS) is an unincorporated society. Members and visitors meet twice monthly in a casual, non-judgmental social setting to share one another’s company, dialogue and learn together about this form of sexual expression. The EOS is not a dating service, an escort agency, sexual theatre for voyeurs, or a swinger’s club.
The EOS subscribes to the credo first adopted by the National Leather Association: Safe, Sane & Consensual. Each member takes this code seriously and expects the same from new and old members alike. The EOS neither promotes nor condones unsafe and unlawful activities, or behavior that is prejudicial toward any person or group.
Education
A major aim of the EOS is to help people distinguish between abuse and consensual eroticism. These can be easily confused. To an outsider, sexual role-playing that involves bondage or spanking can appear to be non-consensual. Indeed, the appearance of non-consensual activity is part of the thrill.
The EOS organizes and sponsors workshops in addition to its less formal gatherings. Such workshops contain a variety of topics meant to help the new and experienced alike learn more about safety and health issues and practices, develop new skills, and also partake in “fun” activities like “toy” building sessions.
Membership Info
Adults of all ages are EOS members: males and females, singles and couples, as well as people of different sexual orientations. The prevailing philosophy is tolerance toward individual orientations, preferences, and tastes. Membership is open to adults of good character with a genuine and personal interest in Erotic BDSM. In addition to discounts on workshop costs members enjoy the privilege of access to an extensive library of books, DVD’s, tapes, and other materials related to various aspects of BDSM and alternative lifestyles and play forms.
Individuals interested in becoming members should have attended at least two munches and completed a membership orientation before their application for membership is considered by the Board for approval. If you are interested in becoming a member come on out to a munch and speak with the membership director or a member of the Board.
About Our Name
Our name comes from, The Story of O, a classic erotic novel published in France in 1955. Written by Pauline Reage (a pseudonym), the Story of “O” was about a slave named “O” — a young woman so devoted to her lover that she willing submits to his domination, even to the extent of being given away to another Master.
Even though the book dwelled on a male dominant – female submissive relationship, the EOS does not distinguish between a member’s gender, sexual orientation, or preference for domination, submission, or both.
